Greensboro Parks and Recreation is excited to offer Greensboro Mountain Biking Experience ! Trails are preserved in a primitive manner and are linear; perfect for enjoying a ride! The number of bikes we have is limited so registration is required. Registration closes the day before the program at 5:00pm.

We have bikes available in sizes, S, M, ML, and L. We also have youth bike sizes available. Each available size is listed in a separate section below. Pick the appropriate sized bike for the rider height provided in the section description.

Riders must be age 9 or older to register! Please register each rider individually. To add a member to your household for registration, go to My Account > Add Household Member.

We'll provide the Bike! We will provide helmets if necessary but if participants have their own that is preferable. All participants MUST bring their own water. Bike gloves are recommended if available.

Join Parks and Rec Staff for a Hike on the Nat Greene Trail for Great Trails State Day!

We will be hosting 3 guided hikes on this day to celebrate our local trails. All participants will meet at the Nat Greene Trail entrance inside Lake Brandt Marina located at 5945 Lake Brandt Rd. Greensboro, NC 27455.
The 9-10:30 Hike is considered a moderate hike and would not be well suited for young kids.
The 2:00 & 3:00 hikes are considered easy hikes and would be great for the whole family. Please be aware that the trail is not flat and so a stroller would have a hard time navigating through.

Please be aware that these hikes are part of a bigger event that will be taking place at Lake Brandt Marina from 1:00pm-4:00pm. There will be food trucks, activities for the whole family and cool things to see at this event. All participants that sign up for any of the hikes will have to park at Jesse Wharton Elementary School and take the shuttle down or walk down the path through the woods to get inside the Marina. Join Parks and Recreation Staff for fun Family Fishing Programs at Lake Higgins!

This is a catch and release fishing program designed for people of all ages. We will provide the bait and the poles and chairs if necessary and all you have to do is bring your patience. We will set up around the Education Pond at Lake Higgins which is located immediately to the left of the Marina office.
Registration is required for this program.

Each person that plans to fish must sign up separately. The cost per person s $5.00

Participants must be willing to put on worms and take fish off hooks. Staff will be present to assist.

Join us for a fun filed day at the Lake with three different programs. There will be something for everyone. Please read the descriptions below and choose the activity you would like to register for.

Creepy Creatures: an hour of interactive learning to teach little ones about the underappreciated animals associated with Halloween. Often seen as ‘creepy creatures’, we will discuss their unique traits and the important roles they play in our world. One registration is required per household.

Costume Paddle: come dressed in your best costume and join lake staff on the water to say goodbye to the summer and hello to the fall. Please choose below if you would like to reserve a one-person kayak, a two-person kayak, or if you are bringing your own boat. Arrive early if you plan to decorate your boat! Children under the age of 13 must be in a 2-person boat with an adult.

Spooky Stories: an hour of spooky stories and sticky treats (smores!) around a campfire. One registration is required per household.

If you have never shot a bow and arrow or you have and just want more practice then join us at Bryan Park Shelter 10 at our Archery Range. We will have all of the equipment you will need. We will not allow any personal equipment to be used at our range for these clinics. Please be aware that we have limited targets so participants will take turns at our targets.

Join Parks and Recreation Staff for a New Years Day 6 Mile Hike!

Whether your New Year Resolution is to get healthier or you just want to start the year off by being in the outdoors this is the perfect program for you. Staff will be leading a guided hike on the Piedmont Trail. We will be meeting at The Piedmont Trail Parking Lot which is located at State Road 2347, Greensboro, NC. This parking lot is on the left once you have passed the Lake Brandt Marina coming from downtown. If we run out of parking space in this lot participants can park in the gravel lot for the Reedy Fork Trail and walk over.

This trail is suitable for all skill levels but young kids might get tired due to the length of the hike. Staff will be discussing local history and the importance of the lakes during the walk. Everyone in your party that plans to hike must be registered separately. Please dress comfortably for the weather and bring water.

Join Parks and Recreation Staff for our Family Hikes of 2025!

Our family hikes are for children ages 2-10 years old. Parents and family members will accompany children and staff on the hike. Each child will have to be registered separately. We will start off the hikes with a quick activity/craft and then take a 1 mile hike through various trails. Each date will be held at a different trail so please make sure you read over each date carefully.

Our April 22nd Family Hike will be held at Richardson-Taylor Nature Preserve. We hope to see all sorts of cool plants and animals on this hike that will take us right to the edge of the wetlands at the preserve.

Our May 6th Family Hike will take place at Brightwood Park Nature Trail. There is a fun nature playground for the kids to enjoy on the walk.

Our May 20th Family Hike will take place at the Nat Greene Trail. We will see beautiful views of Lake Brandt and some neat wildlife. We will meet the shelter in Lake Brandt Marina parking lot.

Please make sure the children are dressed appropriately for the weather and that they have water available. Please note that the terrain is uneven with lots of hazards. This hike is subject to be cancelled due to the weather and a rain date will have be to scheduled.. Staff will notify parents as soon as possible if the program needs to be cancelled.
